VITAGRO's horticulture division is one of the largest in Ukraine regarding orchard area and fruit production. Our orchards are located in the villages of V. Zherebky in the Volochysk district and Svirshkivtsi in the Chemerovets district. Here, we have constructed one of the largest fruit warehouses, equipped with state-of-the-art sorting lines and modern storage facilities. This infrastructure allows us to supply the market with a significant volume of high-quality products that we grow and prepare for sale.
The first plantings in our orchards took place in 2010 in Svirshkivtsi, with the youngest ones established in 2019 in V. Zherebky. In 2018, we planted 14 hectares with Italian seedlings; the remainder came from Ukrainian nurseries. We are planning to plant an apple orchard in V. Zherebky using foreign seedlings and install an Italian hail protection trellis, prioritizing varieties in demand in the EU.
The main task is to increase the fruiting areas, achieve high fruit yields in compliance with innovative growing technologies. The average yield under favorable conditions is 50 tonnes per hectare for apples, 15 tonnes per hectare for pears, 20 tonnes per hectare for plums, 5 tonnes per hectare for cherries and 5 tonnes per hectare for currants.
